Rose Hynes, Chairperson of Shannon Airport Authority has been appointed as Treasurer of the newly formed World Free Zones Organisation which was launched in Dubai recently. The organization has the backing of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum who has a long association with Ireland through his interest in racing and the bloodstock industry.
Shannon was the free zone in the world’and since its foundation in 1959, the concept has been replicated in numerous countries worldwide. These areas offer incentives for new industries and have played a key role in economic development and the encouragement of foreign direct investment.especially export-oriented industries.
The Free Zone in Shannon was vital in the development of the Irish economy and helped to establish numerous successful industries in the area thereby increasing the importance of the airport.
The new World Free Zones Organization brings together free zones and Special Economic Zones around the world, providing a range of services for its members, and increasing global awareness of the role of free zones.
The appointment of Ms. Hynes to the board is a recognition of the importance of Shannon and of the contribution it can make to the development of Free Zones throughout the world.
